PM Forms Committee on One Constitution Avenue Dispute, Halts Action Amid Eviction Row

Published:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed a high-level committee to review the ongoing dispute over One Constitution Avenue in Islamabad, directing authorities to halt all action until a final decision is made.

The committee will be chaired by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and includes Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, along with senior cabinet and commerce officials. It has been given one week to examine the matter and submit a detailed report.

During this period, all affected individuals and stakeholders will be allowed to present their concerns. Authorities, including the Islamabad administration and CDA, have been instructed not to take any further steps.

The move comes after reports that CDA officials, backed by police, reached the site to take control of the 22-storey building following the cancellation of its lease. Residents were earlier asked to vacate, with warnings of utility disconnections.

The lease was cancelled over alleged non-payment of dues for more than 20 years. The building, initially planned as a hotel, was later converted into residential apartments, sparking legal and administrative controversy.
