Karachi Kings captain and former Australian cricketer David Warner has been convicted and fined A$1,500 by a Sydney court over a drink-driving offence.
Warner pleaded guilty after failing a random breath test in Sydney during the Easter weekend. The court heard that his blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit.
The 39-year-old was also ordered to install an alcohol interlock device in his vehicle. The device prevents a car from starting if alcohol is detected in the driver’s breath.
Warner’s lawyer asked the court to consider the impact of widespread media coverage of the incident, including potential effects on his commercial opportunities.
However, the court stressed the seriousness of drink-driving and the need to discourage similar offences.
Warner has continued his franchise cricket career and is captain of Pakistan Super League side Karachi Kings.
