KARACHI — September 17, 2026: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has expressed regret over remarks he made regarding Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, clarifying that his statement was unintentional in its meaning.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Khuhro said his remarks made a day earlier were not intended to convey disrespect. He expressed regret over the statement and said he deeply respected the dignity of the institution.
“I sincerely regret the statement,” Khuhro said, adding that he regretted any misunderstanding that may have been caused by his words.
Khuhro Clarifies Earlier Remarks
The clarification followed comments made by Khuhro during a seminar concerning proposals for the creation of new provinces and administrative units in Pakistan.
During the discussion, Khuhro criticised Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s remarks concerning governance reforms and questioned the involvement of the army leadership in the political debate. He also referred to Field Marshal Asim Munir while discussing the issue.
Khuhro subsequently emphasized that the Pakistan Army is responsible for protecting the country’s borders and said that his remarks should not be interpreted as disrespect toward the institution.
Debate Over New Provinces Continues
The remarks came amid an ongoing political debate over proposals for creating additional provinces or administrative units in Pakistan.
The issue has generated differing positions among political parties, particularly in Sindh. The Sindh Assembly recently passed a resolution rejecting any proposal to alter the territorial limits of the province and reaffirming Sindh’s unity and territorial integrity.
Khuhro has been among the PPP leaders publicly opposing proposals that would divide Sindh. The Sindh Assembly’s resolution was moved by Khuhro in his capacity as a member and chairman of the Public Accounts Committee.
His latest statement focuses on clarifying the meaning of his earlier remarks and reiterating his respect for the institution.
