LIMA: Thirteen people lost their lives after a tourist aircraft crashed during a sightseeing flight over Peru’s world-famous Nazca Lines, officials confirmed. The aircraft was carrying 11 foreign tourists and two crew members when it went down near the historic UNESCO World Heritage Site.
According to authorities, the Cessna Caravan departed from Pisco Airport for a routine aerial tour before the crew reported an emergency. Contact with the aircraft was lost shortly afterward, and rescue teams later discovered the wreckage engulfed in flames. Sadly, there were no survivors.
Peruvian officials have launched a formal investigation to determine what caused the crash. Aviation experts will examine the aircraft’s condition, weather conditions, and flight data as part of the inquiry.
The Nazca Lines, famous for their massive ancient geoglyphs carved into the desert, attract thousands of visitors every year who experience the landmark through scenic flights.
