ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has strongly condemned the recent threats made by Yemen’s Houthi movement against Saudi Arabia and commercial vessels operating in the Red Sea, describing them as a serious danger to regional peace, maritime security, and global trade.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Foreign Office said that threats targeting Saudi Arabia and international shipping are unacceptable and violate the principles of international law. Pakistan reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Kingdom’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security, emphasizing that freedom of navigation must be protected at all times.
The statement comes after the Houthis warned shipping companies to avoid Saudi ports and announced plans to target vessels linked to the Kingdom. The Red Sea is one of the world’s busiest maritime routes, carrying a significant share of global oil and commercial cargo. Any disruption in the region could impact international trade, energy supplies, and shipping costs worldwide.
Pakistan also warned that any hostile action against Pakistani-flagged ships or the country’s maritime interests would be considered a direct threat to national security. The Foreign Office urged all parties to exercise restraint, avoid further escalation, and work through diplomatic channels to maintain peace and stability in the Middle East.
