Türkiye has reaffirmed its strong and longstanding support for Pakistan, describing the country as a strategic partner as bilateral defence and security cooperation continues to deepen.
Turkish Defence Minister Yaşar Güler made the remarks in Ankara on September 4 during a reception held to mark Pakistan’s Defence and Martyrs Day. Addressing the gathering, Güler conveyed Türkiye’s greetings to the people of Pakistan and described Pakistan as a “strategic partner,” underscoring the close relationship between the two countries.
The reaffirmation comes as Pakistan and Türkiye are expanding cooperation across defence, security, aerospace and military training. Earlier engagements between the two countries have focused on strengthening interoperability, professional exchanges, defence technology and joint capabilities.
The relationship has gained additional strategic importance following the signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement by Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia in August. The three countries have since agreed to establish a permanent secretariat and further institutionalise their defence coordination.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office has also said that cooperation under the trilateral framework will include deeper defence-industry collaboration, joint technology development and production aimed at strengthening the capabilities of the participating armed forces.
Türkiye’s latest message therefore comes at a time when Islamabad and Ankara are moving beyond traditional political ties towards a broader strategic partnership involving defence cooperation, military coordination, technology and regional security.
The continued alignment reflects the longstanding relationship between the two countries and signals Ankara’s intention to maintain close strategic engagement with Pakistan amid an evolving regional security environment.
