KARACHI: A major development has emerged in the investigation into the death of young Karachi businessman Mir Raza Ali, as the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has obtained six months of Binance and cryptocurrency-related data linked to the late entrepreneur.
According to investigative sources, the multi-page data has been shared with the investigation committee and the judicial commission probing the case. The information has reportedly been submitted in a format similar to call detail records (CDRs).
Police have asked the NCCIA to analyse and decode the technical cryptocurrency records into a simpler format. Investigators are particularly seeking details of the number of cryptocurrency transactions carried out on a daily basis during the six-month period.
The data is expected to help investigators examine Mir Raza’s cryptocurrency activity and determine whether any financial transactions, disputes or losses could have a connection with the circumstances surrounding his death. The NCCIA has technical and coding experts who are analysing the information received from external sources.
Mir Raza Ali was found dead in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar after he was reported missing on July 28. A subsequent post-mortem confirmed that he had been killed, while a judicial commission is currently examining concerns surrounding the investigation and earlier forensic findings.
The NCCIA’s analysis of the crypto data is now expected to provide investigators with additional financial information as they continue to determine the circumstances and possible motives behind the case.
