India Loses Global Investor Appeal as Foreign Funds Exit Stock Market

Published:

NEW DELHI: Global investors are reducing their exposure to India’s stock market amid concerns over high valuations, weak corporate earnings and the absence of a strong artificial-intelligence investment theme, according to Bloomberg.

Singapore-based multi-family office firm Red Capital Partners exited all its Indian investments about a month ago. Its Chief Investment Officer, Gerald Gan, said slowing economic growth had weakened the investment case for India.

Foreign portfolio investment in companies listed on India’s National Stock Exchange has fallen to a 17-year low, while a recent Bank of America survey ranked India as Asia’s least-favored market.

Bloomberg also reported that Janus Henderson Investors and Vantage Point Asset Management have reduced their Indian investments to zero over the past year.

The developments highlight growing concerns among some global investors over India’s market valuations, corporate earnings and future investment opportunities.
