KARACHI, September 17, 2026: DIG West Irfan Baloch has said police have arrested a suspect in the killing of a woman and her two children in Karachi, describing the investigation as a challenging case in which the accused allegedly attempted to destroy evidence and portray the incident as a robbery.
Addressing a press conference, the DIG said the suspect had previously lived as a tenant in the area and was allegedly removed from the property by the victim’s husband. According to the police account, the suspect allegedly entered the house while the woman’s husband, who works at Lucky One, was away.
Police allege that the suspect attempted to sexually assault the woman and that she resisted. The DIG said the suspect allegedly attacked her with an iron rod, resulting in her death, and subsequently killed the children. Police also allege that the suspect killed the children because of concerns that he could be identified.
According to DIG Baloch, the suspect allegedly remained inside the house from approximately 1:30pm to 6pm. He allegedly washed himself, cleaned the alleged weapon and attempted to remove evidence from the crime scene.
The police further alleged that the suspect switched off his mobile phone before arriving at the house, left his motorcycle at home and travelled to the location in a Qingqi rickshaw. Investigators also identified witnesses who allegedly saw him entering and leaving the house.
Police Say Suspect Tried to Make Incident Look Like Robbery
DIG Baloch said the suspect allegedly attempted to give the killings the appearance of a robbery and also took money that had been collected by the children.
He said the case initially appeared to be a blind case, as investigators did not recover fingerprints from the crime scene. According to the DIG, police nevertheless traced the suspect through detailed investigative work.
Police said the suspect has allegedly confessed to the killings, while efforts are continuing to recover the alleged murder weapon, which investigators believe was thrown into a drain.
Police Investigating Possible Planning
DIG Baloch said investigators believe the incident may have been carried out after prior planning. He added that police are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the killings and gather additional evidence.
Regarding the ongoing protest over the separate Manghopir case, the DIG said police were working to resolve the case and that cooperation from the victim’s father would be important. He said he intended to meet the family again and assure them that police were making efforts to provide justice.
The DIG also said the nature of the killings had created fear among residents and expressed the view that the case should be examined under the relevant provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA). The final legal sections applicable to the case will depend on the investigation and prosecutorial/legal process.
