PESHAWAR: Security incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have increased by 195% between March 2024 and September 2026, according to a security assessment highlighting growing challenges for law enforcement agencies.
The report identifies several operational gaps, including more than 9,000 vacant police positions, shortages of modern surveillance equipment and limited access to protected vehicles in southern districts of the province.
According to the assessment, police and security agencies accounted for 73% of reported incidents in 2026. It also highlights the growing use of drones and explosive devices, adding to the challenges faced by security personnel.
Meanwhile, a high-level cabinet committee chaired by the prime minister is reviewing the province’s security situation. Discussions are focused on strengthening policing, improving coordination among relevant agencies and addressing gaps in operational capacity.
The findings have renewed attention on police resources, modern equipment and security preparedness as authorities consider measures to improve public safety across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
