Islamabad: Pakistan’s nuclear security framework has undergone its first-ever International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) International Physical Protection Advisory Service (IPPAS) review, according to a report published by Dawn.
During the 12-day review, an IAEA team assessed Pakistan’s physical protection regime and provided recommendations to further strengthen security regulations, procedures and practices.
The review focused on measures designed to protect nuclear facilities and materials. The recommendations are intended to help improve the country’s existing nuclear security arrangements.
Separately, the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) and the IAEA concluded a five-day workshop on the security of commercial-grade nuclear equipment.
These developments highlight ongoing cooperation between Pakistan and the IAEA to strengthen nuclear security practices and enhance the protection of nuclear materials and facilities.
