Pentagon to Livestream Nidal Hasan’s Firing Squad Execution on December 3

Published:

Washington: The US military plans to livestream the execution of former Army psychiatrist Nidal Malik Hasan, who was convicted of killing 13 people and injuring 32 others in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting in Texas.

According to reports by Reuters and Associated Press, Hasan’s execution by firing squad is scheduled for December 3, 2026, at Fort Hood, the same military base where the shooting took place. The execution date was announced by the US Army following President Donald Trump’s approval of the death sentence.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the execution would be made public, while a Pentagon official confirmed that it would be livestreamed. Details about the broadcast platform and public viewing arrangements have not yet been announced.

Hasan was convicted by a military court in 2013 and sentenced to death for the killings. If carried out as scheduled, his execution would mark the first US military execution since 1961 and the first military firing squad execution since 1945.

The planned broadcast is expected to draw attention to the US military’s execution procedures and raise further debate over the public broadcasting of capital punishment.
