Afghan Report Claims India Funded Taliban Weapons Purchases From Belarus

Published:

KABUL: An Afghan media report has alleged that India provided financial support for the Taliban to purchase weapons and drones from Belarus, citing five former senior Afghan officials as sources. The report says the alleged arrangements involve increased contacts between Taliban officials and Belarus in recent months.

The claims have not been independently verified. The report also does not provide publicly confirmed evidence establishing that the Indian government financed the alleged purchases. India, Belarus and the Taliban authorities have not publicly confirmed the reported arrangement.

The allegations come amid heightened tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan and growing regional security concerns. India has separately increased diplomatic and humanitarian engagement with Afghanistan since the Taliban returned to power, although the nature and scope of that relationship remain subjects of regional debate.
