KARACHI, September 18, 2026: President of the Karachi Goods Carrier Association (KGCA) Rana Muhammad Aslam has expressed concern over the prolonged stoppage of vehicles and containers in Karachi in view of possible political protests, saying that holding transport vehicles for weeks is causing serious difficulties for the transport sector.
Aslam said that stopping vehicles and containers 20 to 25 days ahead of anticipated political protests was difficult to understand. He said that in the past, transport vehicles were generally stopped only one or two days before a protest.
Prolonged Vehicle Restrictions Affect Transporters
The newly elected KGCA president said that keeping trucks and containers off the roads for several weeks was creating significant financial difficulties for transporters, who were already facing multiple challenges.
According to Aslam, prolonged restrictions on the movement of goods vehicles were also affecting the broader supply chain, potentially disrupting the movement of goods and increasing costs for businesses.
KGCA Calls For Immediate Release Of Vehicles
Rana Muhammad Aslam called for the immediate release of detained vehicles and containers, urging authorities to allow transportation businesses to resume normal operations.
He said transporters needed an environment in which their businesses could continue without prolonged interruptions, particularly given the financial pressures already facing the sector.
Transporters Warn Of Possible Protest
The KGCA president said that if the problems faced by transporters were not addressed, the transport community would raise its voice to protect its interests.
He further said that if the situation continued without a resolution, transporters could be compelled to take the path of protest.
