AMMAN: An Iranian ballistic missile strike on a U.S. military base in Jordan damaged multiple American aircraft, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between Washington and Tehran.
The attack targeted Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, a key hub for U.S. air operations in the region. According to reports citing people familiar with the incident, an A-10 Thunderbolt II suffered severe damage, including the loss of a wing.
Around eight F-15 fighter jets also sustained minor damage in the strikes. The affected F-15s were reportedly returned to service after the incident, while the long-term condition of the damaged A-10 remains unclear.
The strikes followed a series of escalating attacks between Iran and the United States. Iran launched ballistic missiles toward U.S. targets in Jordan after American forces destroyed five Iranian oil tankers. Jordanian authorities said most of the incoming missiles were intercepted, with no casualties reported in the latest attack.
