QUETTA: Security forces have neutralised 11 terrorists during separate intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in Balochistan’s Kharan and Washuk districts, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
According to the military’s media wing, the operations were conducted on September 6 and 7 following intelligence reports about the presence of terrorists in the two districts.
In Kharan, terrorists reportedly attempted to establish a roadblock and disrupt local traffic. Security forces responded promptly and engaged the militants, resulting in the killing of eight terrorists, ISPR said.
In a separate operation in Washuk, security forces targeted a reported terrorist hideout. Following an intense exchange of fire, three terrorists were killed, while the hideout was also destroyed.
Security forces also recovered approximately 2.9 tonnes of explosives from the area. According to ISPR, the explosives were being used for the preparation of improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Sanitisation operations are continuing in the area to locate and eliminate any remaining terrorists, the military said.
The latest operations come amid intensified counterterrorism efforts in Balochistan under the Azm-e-Istehkam initiative. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also praised the security forces for the successful operations and recovery of the explosives.
