ISLAMABAD: Six Frontier Constabulary (FC) personnel were martyred and three others injured after terrorists launched a major assault on an FC surveillance post in the Musa Darra area, located between Peshawar and Kohat districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, early Tuesday morning.
According to security sources, heavily armed militants attacked the post in the Hassan Khel region, triggering an intense exchange of fire. FC troops mounted a strong resistance and successfully repelled the assault, killing at least eight terrorists during the operation.
Initial reports suggest the attackers were affiliated with the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), although no group had officially claimed responsibility at the time of reporting.
Senior security officials confirmed the casualties and stated that clearance and search operations were ongoing in the area to eliminate any remaining militants and secure the region.
The injured FC personnel were shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment, while reinforcement teams were immediately dispatched to the site following the attack.
The Frontier Constabulary, tasked with maintaining security between settled districts and former tribal areas, has played an increasingly active role in counter-terrorism operations since the merger of the tribal districts into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Authorities have placed the local administration on high alert as investigations into the attack continue. Security sources said the militants exploited the rugged terrain of Musa Darra and used small arms, and possibly improvised explosive devices, during the coordinated assault.
The attack underscores the persistent security challenges facing Pakistan’s northwestern region amid ongoing efforts to counter terrorist threats and maintain stability.
