GPSF Defence Day Dialogue Highlights Need for Integrated National Defence Strategy
ISLAMABAD: Lt Gen Muhammad Ali HI(M) (Retd), Secretary Defence, has stressed the need for “responsible readiness” to maintain Pakistan’s credible minimum deterrence and effectively manage crises.
Addressing the inaugural Global Peace Strategy Forum (GPSF) Defence Day Dialogue as chief guest, Lt Gen Muhammad Ali said responsible readiness must include the capacity to manage a crisis while maintaining the ability to dominate the escalation ladder.
Recalling the unity displayed by Pakistan’s armed forces and the nation during the 1965 war, he paid tribute to the sacrifices of soldiers, sailors, airmen, intelligence personnel, police, Frontier Corps, Rangers, Levies and civilians.
The event was attended by prominent defence, diplomatic, academic and policy experts, including former Ambassador Fauzia Nasreen; former Air Vice Marshals Dr. Rizwan Riaz and Sarfraz Ahmed; Major General Farhat Abbas Sani, Major General Zahid Mehmood, Major General Adnan Asif Jah Shad, Managing Director Green Tourism Pakistan, and Major General Ehsan Mehmood Khan; Vice Admiral (Retd) Dr. Ahmed Saeed; Brigadier Amir Yaqub and Brigadier Edgar Felix, along with leading academics and policy professionals.
The event also marked the launch of GPSF’s first “Defence Day Monitor,” an annual review of Pakistan’s comprehensive defence and security landscape.
Experts emphasized that modern national defence requires an integrated approach combining military preparedness, economic resilience, technological capacity, institutional coordination, strategic communication and national cohesion.
