Yerevan: Pakistan has made its first ambassadorial-level appointment to Armenia following the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in August 2025.
Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan presented his Letters of Credence to Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan at a ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Yerevan. The appointment marks Pakistan’s first ambassadorial-level representation in Armenia.
President Khachaturyan congratulated Ambassador Khan and expressed readiness to support efforts aimed at further strengthening Armenia-Pakistan relations. Ambassador Khan conveyed greetings from President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation.
The two sides discussed opportunities to increase cooperation in trade and investment, education, culture, tourism and people-to-people contacts. Khan also met Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan to review the bilateral agenda and prospects for closer cooperation.
Pakistan and Armenia formally established diplomatic relations on August 31, 2025, ending decades without formal diplomatic ties. Ambassador Khan will serve concurrently as Pakistan’s ambassador to the UAE and as non-resident ambassador to Armenia, based in Abu Dhabi.
