Karachi: PTI Parliamentary Leader in the Sindh Assembly, Muhammad Shabbir Qureshi, has addressed criticism regarding his speech and educational background, saying his occasional speech hesitation is a congenital issue for which he has already received treatment.
Qureshi said his speech should not be viewed as a weakness, emphasizing that he considers honesty, loyalty and commitment to the public to be the defining aspects of his identity.
He said some people believe fluency in English is important in politics, but argued that political leadership should be judged by a person’s character and intentions rather than language skills.
Says Educational Certificates Are Available
Addressing questions about his education, Qureshi said all of his educational certificates are available for verification. He stated that he received his education through the Urdu-medium system with science subjects and completed a BSc degree, adding that anyone with doubts can have his credentials checked.
He also expressed pride in Urdu, describing it as his national and mother tongue, and said he intends to give greater preference to Urdu in his public communication following an incident in recent days.
Emphasis On Language And National Identity
Qureshi said promoting Urdu, national culture and Pakistan’s identity remains important to him. He concluded his statement by urging people to judge individuals by their character rather than their speech.
“Do not judge by language; judge by character.”
