ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has rejected reports suggesting that it has issued a direct warning to Iran over recent Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, while maintaining that Islamabad will take appropriate action if its national interests or security obligations require it.
The clarification comes amid growing regional tensions following a series of Houthi missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia. Pakistan has strongly condemned the attacks and reaffirmed its support for Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has also stressed that no military response has been discussed under the recently signed Mecca Joint Defence Agreement involving Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. Officials said Pakistan remains committed to the agreement but that no immediate military measures are currently under consideration.
The developments follow reports that Pakistan conveyed Saudi concerns to Iran over Houthi attacks. Reuters reported that Pakistani, Saudi and Iranian sources said Islamabad had urged Tehran to use its influence to restrain the Houthis.
With fighting intensifying in Yemen and the Houthis advancing along the Red Sea coast, Pakistan is seeking to balance its security commitments with its stated preference for diplomacy and regional de-escalation.
