ISLAMABAD: The Government of Pakistan has significantly increased the Diyat (blood money) amount payable to the heirs of murder victims after a sharp rise in the market price of silver.
Under Pakistan’s legal framework, the Diyat amount is linked to the value of 30,630 grams of silver, meaning any substantial change in silver prices directly affects the compensation amount. Due to the recent surge in silver prices, the government has revised the Diyat value, nearly doubling the previous payment.
The updated amount will apply to cases where Diyat is awarded under the law, ensuring that compensation remains aligned with current market values as required by legal provisions.
Officials said the revision is part of the government’s routine adjustment process and reflects changes in the international and domestic silver markets. The new rate is expected to be implemented immediately for applicable cases.
