The Sindh Government Services Hospital on M.A. Jinnah Road is being shifted to the second floor of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC)-run Sarfaraz Rafiquee Shaheed Hospital.
According to an official letter issued by the Sindh health department on August 18, the Services Hospital has been allotted three rooms and three halls at the KMC-run facility. The hospital’s existing premises are being handed over to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi.
The relocation process has been ordered to take effect immediately. Hospital staff, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, administrative personnel and paramedical employees, have been directed to report to the newly allotted premises.
Concerns over limited space
The decision has raised concerns about whether the newly allotted space will be sufficient for the functioning of a full-fledged government hospital.
Hospital operations require space for patient care, medical staff, administration, records, diagnostics, storage and other essential services. An official, speaking anonymously to Dawn, expressed concern that accommodating these functions in only three rooms and three halls could put pressure on routine operations and affect accessibility.
Services ordered to continue without interruption
The Medical Superintendent of Services Hospital has directed relevant departments and staff to complete the shifting arrangements urgently.
Officials have also been instructed to ensure that hospital services and essential administrative functions continue without interruption during the relocation.
The development comes as the provincial government transfers the existing Services Hospital premises to Civil Hospital Karachi while directing the hospital to operate from the newly allotted space within the KMC-run facility.
