The Information Ministry has dismissed a viral video purportedly showing Defence Minister Khawaja Asif comparing Pakistan’s progress with India, describing the footage as fake and digitally manipulated.
According to the ministry, the video circulating on social media does not feature an authentic statement from Khawaja Asif. Officials said the audio accompanying the footage was generated using artificial intelligence and was presented in a way that could mislead viewers.
The clarification came after the video gained attention across social media platforms, with users sharing it as an apparent statement by the defence minister about the economic and developmental progress of Pakistan and India.
The Information Ministry urged the public to exercise caution when viewing and sharing viral political content online. It stressed the importance of verifying such material through official and credible sources before accepting it as genuine.
The incident highlights growing concerns over the use of artificial intelligence to create manipulated audio and video content involving public figures. Such material can quickly spread online and create confusion about statements that were never actually made.
The ministry’s clarification aims to prevent the circulation of the misleading video and establish that Khawaja Asif did not make the remarks attributed to him in the viral clip.
