KARACHI: Another case of Mpox has been reported in Karachi, with the latest diagnosis taking the number of confirmed cases in Sindh this year to 42, according to hospital officials.
The latest patient is a 45-year-old resident of Surjani Town who was brought to the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital after developing a rash. Doctors conducted a PCR test, which subsequently confirmed the Mpox infection.
Hospital officials said the patient is currently receiving treatment at the facility.
With the latest case, 14 confirmed Mpox infections have now been reported in Karachi during the current year, while the remaining cases have been recorded in other parts of Sindh.
Mpox is a viral infection that can cause fever, body aches, swollen lymph nodes and a rash that may develop into painful or itchy lesions. The virus can spread through close physical contact with an infected person, particularly through contact with lesions or contaminated materials.
Health authorities continue to monitor Mpox cases in Sindh as infections have also been reported outside Karachi.
