US Navy Removes Leadership Profiles from Public Websites Amid Rising Iran Tensions

WASHINGTON: The US Navy has ordered the removal of official leadership portraits and biographies from public-facing websites, citing growing security concerns as tensions with Iran continue to escalate.

According to a Navy directive, commands led by vice admirals and lower-ranking officers are no longer permitted to display biographies and photos of commanding officers, executive officers, chiefs of staff, deputies, and command master chiefs on publicly accessible websites. Existing profiles are also being taken down.

The Navy said the move is intended to better protect service members and their families, warning that adversaries increasingly collect publicly available information to identify, track, and target military personnel.

The decision comes amid heightened regional tensions involving Iran, although the Navy has not directly linked the policy change to any specific threat. Senior flag officer biographies will remain available on official Navy websites, while internal military networks will continue to host leadership information.
