Pakistan To Abolish 60% Of Vacant Permanent Posts In Federal Accounts System

Published:

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to abolish 60% of vacant permanent posts in the federal accounts system as part of its ongoing rightsizing and expenditure-reduction measures. The Controller General of Accounts (CGA) has directed relevant offices to begin the implementation process and review existing vacancy records.

Posts Vacant For One Year Included

The decision covers permanent posts that have remained vacant for at least one year. However, positions kept vacant for transfers, postings or promotions will not be affected.

Impact On Direct Recruitment

The abolished posts will be deducted from the relevant vacancy rosters, particularly from the quota allocated for initial appointments and direct recruitment. Financial Accounting Offices have also been instructed to review their records and process promotion cases according to the revised vacancy position.

Part Of Federal Rightsizing Drive

The move follows a Federal Cabinet decision taken in August 2024 to reduce long-standing vacant posts across the federal government as part of broader rightsizing and austerity measures.
