KARACHI, : Pakistan Customs officials at Jinnah International Airport have foiled an alleged attempt to smuggle approximately 580 grams of hashish (charas) out of the country and arrested two passengers travelling to Dubai.
According to the official Press Information Department statement, the incident occurred on September 17 at around 10pm when a Customs machine operator conducting routine screening at the International Departures area detected suspicious baggage belonging to a husband and wife travelling to Dubai on FlyDubai flight FZ-330.
Hashish Found Hidden In Wooden Jewellery Boxes
The suspicious baggage was subjected to a detailed examination. Customs officials recovered two wooden jewellery boxes fitted with specially designed concealments.
Approximately 290 grams (gross) of hashish was recovered from each jewellery box, bringing the total quantity to approximately 580 grams.
Narcotics Valued At Around Rs2 Million
Customs officials estimated the value of the seized narcotics at approximately Rs2 million.
The contraband was taken into custody under the relevant legal provisions, while an FIR was registered under applicable provisions of the Control of Narcotic Substances (CNS) Act. Authorities said further investigation is underway to determine the complete circumstances of the alleged smuggling attempt and whether any other individuals were involved.
Customs Investigation Underway
The official statement said Pakistan Customs uses risk-based profiling, advanced baggage screening and targeted examination mechanisms at international entry and exit points to detect prohibited and restricted goods.
