KARACHI: The Sindh government will present a resolution in the Sindh Assembly seeking a one-year extension of Rangers deployment in the province from July 20, 2026, to July 19, 2027.
According to the proposed resolution, the extension will be sought under Article 147 of the Constitution to enable the Rangers to continue assisting the civil administration in maintaining law and order.
The resolution states that Rangers’ operations, carried out in coordination with police, have contributed to a reduction in target killings and street crime. It also highlights the activities of banned organisations and the presence of absconding suspects as continuing security concerns.
The resolution maintains that the Rangers’ presence is necessary for protecting public peace and the lives and property of citizens. It also credits the force with playing an important role in intelligence-based operations conducted jointly with police.
The resolution will be debated in the Sindh Assembly before a decision is taken on the proposed extension.
