At least 24 people were martyedand more than 70 injured after an explosion struck near a passenger train passing through Chaman Phatak in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan. According to the BBC reports, the victims included women, children, and three personnel of the Frontier Corps (FC).
Senior police officials and members of the civil administration confirmed the casualties and warned that the death toll could rise further. Eyewitnesses told media outlets that a vehicle allegedly loaded with explosives collided with the train, triggering a powerful blast followed by a fire.
Following the incident, Pakistan security forces and law enforcement agencies immediately launched rescue, clearance, and emergency response operations. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals while authorities cordoned off the area and initiated investigations.
Officials and analysts stated that after facing repeated setbacks in Balochistan, Indian-backed proxy groups are increasingly targeting soft civilian locations in an attempt to spread fear and instability. Observers argued that attacks on innocent civilians appear aimed at undermining Pakistan’s internal security environment as well as ongoing regional peace and diplomatic efforts.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack, stating that “such cowardly acts of terrorism cannot weaken the resolve of the Pakistani people. We remain steadfast in our commitment to eliminate terrorism in all its forms.”
