China has urged Pakistan to intensify its mediation efforts in the Middle East amid rising tensions involving Iran and the United States, according to Chinese state media reports on Wednesday.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the remarks during a phone conversation with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Tuesday, state-run news agency Xinhua reported.
During the call, Wang emphasized the importance of diplomatic engagement and called on Pakistan to play a more active role in easing tensions between Tehran and Washington. He also urged Islamabad to help “properly address” issues surrounding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz — a vital global oil shipping route that has remained at the center of regional security concerns.
“China will continue to support Pakistan’s mediation efforts and make its own contribution toward this end,” Wang said, according to Xinhua.
The development comes as regional powers seek diplomatic solutions to prevent further escalation in the Middle East and ensure stability in global energy supply routes.
