Strait of Hormuz to stay closed until port blockade lifts, says Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf
Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has said negotiations with the United States have made progress, but a final agreement remains distant.
In a televised address, Ghalibaf noted that while discussions are moving forward, “many gaps” and key issues still need to be resolved. He emphasized that talks aimed at ending the ongoing conflict are far from reaching a conclusion.
Tensions have also risen around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil route. Iran warned that the waterway could face restrictions if Washington does not lift its naval blockade on Iranian ports. The strait typically handles around 20% of the world’s oil supply, making any disruption a major global concern.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said “very good conversations” are ongoing but cautioned Iran against using the situation as leverage.
The situation remains uncertain as a temporary ceasefire nears its end, with both sides continuing negotiations amid rising regional tensions.
