New Delhi: India’s Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, resigned on Saturday following weeks of nationwide youth-led protests over alleged examination paper leaks and demands for greater accountability in the country’s education system. His resignation marks a significant political setback for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government amid mounting public pressure.
The demonstrations, led largely by students and young graduates, intensified after accusations of repeated exam paper leaks and concerns over corruption in the recruitment and examination process. Protesters staged rallies across several major cities, insisting that the minister step down and calling for comprehensive reforms to restore trust in India’s education system.
In his resignation statement, Pradhan said he was stepping aside to prevent the ongoing unrest from being exploited by “anti-national elements” and to uphold the interests and aspirations of India’s youth.
